 Learning History Through Media

 On the Spot News

Students can do broadcast news reports on historical events as if they were there for the actual event.

  • Choose an event that you're studying in history class. Encourage students to research the details. Then have the students report the facts to the class as if they were doing an "On the Spot News" broadcast.

  • They can simply stand in front of the class and pretend they are speaking into a microphone or a television camera. If you have access to a video camera or tape recorder, the students can actually record their reports and play them for the class.

  • The reporters can add to the story by inviting teachers and other students to play the roles of the historical figures.

  • If the event took place in your community, students can record video tape of the site to include in the presentation.
