THEME

Racism
By Laura H., Grade 9, Fredericton High, Fredericton, NB

Everyone has feelings and should be treated the same no matter what they look like or what religion they are. After hundreds of years, racism is still happening each and everyday, with people of all ages. Racism is when people do not accept other people for who they really are. Everyone has different backgrounds and each person has the right to be treated the same.

Racism happens anyplace, anytime. In schools, at malls, on the sidewalks and on the Internet. Some people think that they are better than others, but nobody is better than anyone, everyone should be treated equally.

Racism happens right here in New Brunswick, just like every other place in this world. I don't understand how people enjoy making fun of others or being mean to them. I always wonder how people have the heart to be so mean. Some people can't help who they are, but some people choose to be different.

Being a different color, religion or speaking a different language is no reason to make fun of people. It's wrong, mean and hateful towards them. Most people don't even notice when they're being racist towards other people.

Personally, I think racism is one of the worst things that has ever happened to this world. I've always wondered if everyone would get together and talk to people to get them to help stop racism. Working together would make the world a better place to live.
