Movie Review: The Mummy Returns
By: Ray F., St. Paul's Junior High, Mount Pearl, NF

Director / Screenplay: Stephen Sommers

Cast: Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, Patricia Velazquez, Oded Fehr, John Hannah, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Arnold Vosloo, Freddie Boath

From action packed battle scenes to suspenseful moments to never losing its humor, The Mummy Returns has it all.

This movie takes place in 1935, 10 years after the events of the first Mummy movie. In this movie Rick O'Connell, who is played by Brendan Fraser, is married to Evelyn played by Rachel Weisz and has a 9-year-old son Alex who is played by Freddie Boath. The family's home now is in London, England. On a trip to an Egyptian tomb they come across an amulet of a past warrior "The Scorpion King" (Dwayne Johnson). Alex found the amulet and has to wear it to hind it from a group of men who want to bring the Mummy back to life, if they get it, the Mummy will have no problem taking over the world. The men kidnapped Alex and go the British Museum where the corpse of an evil mummy Imhotep played by Arnold Vosloo is resurrected. The Mummy travels back to Egypt with Alex so he can go into the tomb of the Scorpion King and kill him so he can be the ruler of the world.

But there's a catch. When Alex is wearing the emulate the men can't hurt him but if he doesn't go into the Scorpion King's tomb by sunrise in a week after he puts it on he will die. Rick and Evelyn take action and races to Egypt to rescue their son. With help from friends they manage to get to Egypt and find Alex. There's a big battle at the end but I'm not going to tell you because it'll rune the movie.

This movie is great, even better than the first. Go and rent the first Mummy or by it now and then go to the movie theater and watch The Mummy Returns, you wouldn't be disappointed.

I give The Mummy Returns a 5 out of 5.
