The man behind the band
Mr. Paul Moen has been a teacher at Garden Valley Collegiate for the past seven years and has been teaching in Garden Valley School Division in Manitoba for the past 14 years. Mr. Moen teaches not only at Garden Valley Collegiate in Winkler but he also directs the grades 5 and 6 bands at J.R. Walkof Elementary School in Winkler. Earlier in his teaching days, Mr. Moen also taught a variety of other courses, including Grade 7 Health, Kindergarten Music, Grade 3 Social Studies and various choir programs. Mr. Moen is the type of teacher who really cares about his students and hopes that they succeed. He encourages them to enter festivals as individuals, in addition to entering as part of the band. He has also attended various conferences to better himself. Just before Christmas break, Mr. Moen participated in the Mid-West Band Clinic in Chicago; he has also attended an International Music Camp. Since Mr. Moen has been conducting the G.V.C. band program, the school has received 39 trophies. This quote by a student sums up Mr. Moen quite well: "Mr. Moen is very organized and very talented which makes for high performance bands under his conducting."
