THEME

We Are Equal!!
By Jeni B., Grade 9, Fredericton High, Fredericton, NB

For as long as people have existed there has probably been some sort of racism. It might not have been as harsh as it is today but it was still there. We don't know exactly how it started and there are probably a million theories, but we may never know why it is here. We don't need to know how it started, but how it will end.

When you hear the word racism, you might think of an amazing speech by Martin Luther King about freedom. Some people might think of the last joke their friend told them. Every one has their own views and opinions on racism, some are good, and some are bad. Racism will always exist unless we all realize that we are all equal. We all live on the same planet, we talk and breath and eat. How are we different?

The longer racism exists the harder it will be to get rid of. If you are racist and you express your thoughts about it in front of your children, they will learn what they know from you. Unless someone does something incredible to show the world racism is wrong it will live on.

Growing up, I have always known that racism is wrong. I can't sit here and list a million reasons to persuade you it is wrong. I only know we are all equal. How can you disrespect a certain race when in the big picture we are all of the same race? The human race.
