Project Guide

* Who is this for?

This is a national Internet news writing project available to all K to 12 students in Canada. This project will be made available in both official languages.

* What can we write about?

Stories for this project can be about whatever the students are interested in - news, sports, entertainment - and can have a local, national or even international angle

The stories should be greater than 200 words and can include images, video or even sound clips. If your school does not have access to a scanner, and you do not mind waiting for Canada Post then STEM~Net can scan the images, and send them back to you.

* How do I submit articles?

Articles can be submitted by students and teachers via e-mail: snn@calvin.stemnet.nf.ca or through Canada Post :

The SchoolNet News staff will place it on the Net for you. The stories must be in an IBM word processing format. Please indicate what word processing program was used for the story.

Graphics may be e-mailed with the stories and they can be in whatever format you wish.

Video clips (if applicable) can be sent in MPEG, Video for Windows (.avi), or QuickTime (.mov) format.

Audio clips should be sent in WAV or Sun Audio (.au) format.

If you do not have access to a scanner, you may send the graphics and pictures via snail mail (Canada Post).

* What equipment do I need?

The minimum requirements for the project are a computer and a connection to the Internet through an e-mail account.

If students had access to the World Wide Web, as it would be more than helpful as a tool for story research, and for looking at completed news stories students have put on the Net. It is not necessary as all pages will be made available in a text only format.

Submissions, and dialogue between editors and submitters, will occur mainly through e-mail.
