Cabri High School Annual Wake-A-Thon
Cabri High School
Cabri, Saskatchewan

By Crissy, Kendall, and Carson (grade 10)

If you are caught sleeping, you will awake to find yourself covered with whipping cream, that is the rule for Cabri High School's second annual Wake-A-Thon fund-raiser. The object of a Wake-A-Thon is to stay up all night. The Cabri High School Student Representative Council (SRC) needed a fun and easy way to make money, so is planning their second annual Wake-A-Thon fund-raiser to cover costs for the school's yearbook. Last year, they tried it for the first time. It was held on December 1st.

The gym was set up for a dance from 9:00 p.m. until about 1:00 a.m. There was also another room set up with couches and movies, and a lunch room where you could purchase pizza, chips, beverages, etc. Each student was given a pledge sheet to record the money that they were given. They needed a minimum of five dollars to get in the door. For every additional five dollars they had earned their name was entered in a draw. There were about 15 prizes given away including one that went to Amy Gummeson for the most money earned.

This year, the Wake-A-Thon will be held on November 22. The dance went over really well so the SRC is planning to have that again. It will basically be the same as last year's. Attendance will probably be a bit higher because now people know what it is about and will invite some more of their friends. However, all out-of-town guests must be invited and announced. It is to be hoped that it will be just as good as, or better than, last year's.
