Molitor Goes for 3000
Bonaventure Meadows Public School

By Bobby and Richard (grade 7)

Paul Molitor steps up to the plate. The pitch is on the outside corner of the plate. Molitor fights it off and drives one in between center fielder, Rod Myers, and right fielder, Jon Nunnally, for a triple and his 3000th hit! This was the first time a player had hit a triple for their 3000th hit.

Molitor's career in the major leagues started in 1978. Molitor first played for the Milwaukee Brewers, before being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays, where he was a member of back-to-back World Series Championship teams. He was then picked up by the Minnesota Twins as a free agent during the baseball off-season.

This season Molitor has hit 211 and the 105th triple of his career. It has taken him 16 seasons to achieve his formidable 3000 hits. There have only been 21 other players to reach this remarkable feat. Among them have been George Brett and Robin Yount who played with Molitor for a decade.
