From pennies to miracles

Cabri High School
Cabri, Saskatchewan

This spring Saskatchewan is going to have their annual Telemiracle. Telemiracle is a fundraising event for the people in Saskatchewan who need medical supplies but cannot afford it. Every year they have a twenty hour telethon to raise money. They have people come in from around the provinces and perform also they have celebrities hosting.

The telethon is organized by the Kinsmen and Kinettes and held in Regina and Saskatoon. They have Kinsmen and Kinette members from around the province answering the phones.

This year Cabri School is involved in this by raising money by having a penny challenge, the high school is challenging the elementary to see who raises the most money in pennies. The high school is also challenging each other to see who can raise the most money. We are divided into three teams, the teams are used for the noon hour sports; called intramurals. Each team is trying hard to win by donating the most pennies to Telemiracle.

We also are going to challenge the surrounding schools to see who can raise the most money for this telethon. Cabri school is hoping to be able to go to Telemiracle '97 and present them with a cheque.

This is the first year our school has held a penny challenge involving the whole school. It has only been one day and we have already gotten lots of pennies. We think this will be a big success and hope to make it an annual event in our school.
