Taking art to a whole new level

 Many schools in Canada are online but some students have gone beyond the expectations of their computer class and found creative ways to put this technology to use.

Crystal Martin is a student from Port Saunders, on Newfoundland's northern peninsula. She says she's always had an interest in artwork, as well as story writing and poetry. But she was looking for a way to take her creativity to new levels. She found that way right in Roncalli's own computer lab.

Martin, like many students at Roncalli, is in the process of making a fully functional webpage, on which she will display her artwork, as well as poems and stories she writes. This will make it possible for the whole world to see her creative projects.

The days when teaming up on a project meant having to work with someone in your area are over. Martin is presently undertaking a project with a 16-year-old girl from Montana, Jaime Goins, and with another girl from England. The three of them will each take a portion of a story to write and combine their works, making a larger story which can be viewed on their web pages.
This may sound quite difficult to someone who is unfamiliar with computers but Martin has been doing this since last October. She feels she has been doing something she enjoys as well as making friends from all over the world.

When asked why she publishes her works online, Martin replies that it's mostly for enjoyment. She also appreciates the knowledge she is learning about computers as a result. And Martin says she likes having other people see her artwork and writings and is more than happy to publish any works from other people that they wish to send her.
