In January, the grade 5 students at St. Kevin's went on a field trip to the Newfoundland Museum.

First, we experienced the basic method of an archaeological dig. We took turns digging, recording, measuring the artifact, using the brushes, trowels and dustpans to dig and recover the artifact.

Then, we went upstairs to learn about the lifestyle, tools and weapons of prehistoric natives. We examined spearpoints, furs and other artifacts. Students also saw a presentation called "Kamik" about the hunting life of Inuit people.

Visiting the Newfoundland Museum is a great experience for people interested in native history.
