Season comes to a crashing end

The curling season came to a devastating end on February 14 in Miami for the girls' curling team. The team was curling in the Zone Bonspiel and were the defending Zone Champions with very high hopes of winning again. A loss in the A-side Final caused the team to drop to the B-side and they were forced to defend their title from there. It didn't happen.

"We thought it was ours," commented Cheryl I., skip of the team. "Maybe we came in with the wrong attitude. We expected them to miss their shot. That's how we were going to win, and I don't think we played the best we could have."

The 1998 curling team consists of Cheryl I., Carissa W., Carmen R., and Gina B. Rae B. is the fifth player and Dennis Bueckert is the coach. The girls try to practice every day, except on Mondays. They practice with their coach on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school. Tuesday night is Ladies League and Thursday night is Junior League, with the weekends usually spent at a Bonspiel. High school league games are usually played on Monday or Tuesday after school. "We usually get experience from our Bonspiels," says Cheryl I., "we don't get much experience from league games."

Only one player is graduating this year, so the hopes are high for getting the Zone title back in the coming year.
