Mr. Moen has his hands full this year with 198 band students enrolled under his direction. The Senior Concert Band has 87 members; the Senior 2 Band has 41; and the Senior 1 Band has 70. The separate Jazz Band has 19 students mostly from Senior 1 and 2.

This is a busy year with the annual Christmas concerts on December 9 and 10, the percussion workshop on February 24, hosting of the Central Region Honour Band on February 27, the Winkler Festival of the Arts in April, the town clean-up, and the Spring concerts on June 2 and 3.

Senior Concert Band is also involved with the Remembrance Day assembly, the Optimist Festival on February 19, the tour to Minneapolis from May 8-11, and a magazine fundraiser during spring break. The Senior 1 Band also performed at Parkland Elementary School in January. March brings many opportunities for the Jazz Band to perform with a concert, an assembly, and the Brandon Jazz Festival held March 20-21.

The G.V.C. band program has a strong history of excellence, and this year was no exception with the Senior Concert Band receiving a gold medal at the International Optimist Festival for the tenth year in a row. As Mr. Moen said, "I think it's a group made up of students who desire to excel."

Together with the Senior Choir, the Senior Concert Band will experience the culture of Minneapolis from May 8-11 while going to Valley Fair, seeing Brigadoon at Chanhassen Dinner Theatre, seeing a Twins vs. Yankees baseball game, go shopping at the Mall of America, and performing several concerts.

This year also brings a band from Tulare, South Dakota, for the Spring Concert on June 2. The 40 member band is very excited about visiting Canada and being billeted in the homes of G.V.C. students.

The Band Council from the Senior Concert band consists of Rochelle F., Cheryl I., Allison P., and Ang P.. They represent the band, giving feedback to Mr. Moen, and helping out with the many events.
