A hand in the darkness

Elwood Regional High School
Deer Lake, Newfoundland

By Amanda (Grade 12)

All around me the thick air
Grows heavier,
Resting on the shoulders
Of darkness.
Black rain as dark
As my soul
Constantly falls,
Drowning my will.
I have been wrapped for too long
In a blanket of tears,
Lived in a house where
Venus rarely smiles.
I fear I no longer
Remember the warmth
Of sunshine.
If I should see
Golden light again,
Would I recognize it?
Or would I turn away
From the hand
In the darkness,
Not see a smile
In the noonday sun?
