Cats need somewhere safe to give birth to their young. For wild cats, this is somewhere dry and dark, such as a cove or thicket. Kittens and cubs are born with their eyes closed and are totally dependent on their mother for protection, warmth, and food. As the kittens are born, they seek out their mothers nipples and start to feed.
