ENTERPRISE FAIR
By: Jennifer N., Bishops College, St. John's, NF

Check out O'Donel High's Enterprise Fair showcase

The Avalon East School Board Regional Enterprise Expo was held on Thursday, May 3rd, 2001 at O’Donel High School in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland. A total of 95 business ventures from schools all over the Eastern Avalon participated in this year's event. It was an early morning for many students from the 95 businesses as they arrived at O'Donel to set up their displays and prepare for the judging. This regional expo determines the seven best projects that will advance and represent the Avalon East School Board at the provincial expo in St. Anthony on May 25th, 2001.

After the opening ceremonies, which started around 9:00am, the judges began viewing the enterprise businesses from the participating schools. Each business had to be judged twice. Once with a group of three judges and second with a group of two, or vice versa. The judges talked with the students about their products/services, how they came up with the idea and how they put their business plan into action.

Protection for your eyes, baby products, greetings cards, school newspapers, adventure tourism, lip balm, clothing, fashions, woodworking , home services, gift baskets, gift bags ~ ~ are just some of the student businesses featured during the fair.

In the afternoon the Expo held an 'open house' for people from the community and schools to view the businesses students had established. After the open house the organizers of the fair announced who would be going to the provincials in St. Anthony. Four businesses from Bishop’s College were chosen which is a great honor and a tribute to the school's enterprise program.

Everyone who participated and volunteered had a great time. Thank-you. And Good Luck to those of you going to the provincials.
