Poem: Time to Freeze!
by Wes K, Grade 7, St. Anne's Elementary School, Peterborough, ON

Winter is the time to freeze;
when all objects outdoors
become paralyzed in the cold.
Good ol’ winter!

house

The chipmunks and squirrels
are sleeping soundly
in the trees.
Good ol’ winter!

fire

Children are playing
in the snow
building sculptures.
Good ol’ winter!

skating

I sit on the hill
The snow falls soundly
into its soft, white bed
and falls fast asleep
while not a peep
comes from the deep forest.
Good ol’ winter!

icefishing

The snow sparrows have gone home
to their warm winter nests
while the crackle of a nearby campfire
helps them fall fast asleep
while the foxes creep around
and scavenge for dropped seeds to eat.
Good ol’ winter!
