RONCALLI CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL, PORT SAUNDERS, NF

RoncalliRoncalli Central High School of Port Saunders, NF appeared on the Newfoundland edition of CBC's Canada Now (Here and Now) on Wednesday, March 14th.

Reporter Doug Greer visited Roncalli to do a piece on their media program and the school's 'TEEN TV" Program. Teacher Don Tulk and Principal Aurele Beaupre of Roncalli have been very active in bringing journalism into their school. The school has been involved with the SNN Program since its inception in 1996.

Roncalli students produce excellent multi-media stories, which include print and broadcast components both for their school and SNN. Their stories focus on issues affecting teenagers and activities happening in their school and their community. Don Tulk's students have also participated in STEM~Net's Hook, Line and Net Conferences which focus on intergrating technology into the Newfoundland and Labrador school curriculum.

During the visit it was mentioned to Mr. Greer how different people and organizations are important in Roncalli's success - especially SchoolNet News Network and STEM~Net.

WebCT SELECTS TWO K-12 COURSES FOR ITS 'GOLD STANDARD' AWARD

Two K-12 courses have been selected as WebCT 2001 Exemplary Course Projects:

- Art Technologies 1201 by Craig Goudie and STEM~Net, Newfoundland and Labrador’s K-12 Education Network

- Physics 20 - Nick Zaparyniuk, Ross Sheppard High, Edmonton, AB

These projects were selected from a record number of entries to be awarded the "Gold Standard" award and will be showcased at WebCT'sThird Annual Users Conference, taking place from June 23-27, in Vancouver, B.C.

Art Technology 1201 Art Technologies 1201is an introductory two-credit art course offered through the Newfoundland & Labrador Department of Education for high school students who may or may not have any previous exposure to an art program in school.

This course is designed to expose students to the relationships among perception, art, and technology; to help students understand the importance and implications of images and image-making in our society; and to help students with making and using art.

PhysicsPhysics 20 at Ross Sheppard in Edmonton focusses on the study Kinematics,Dynamics, Circular Motion, Gravition, and Waves. Energy is the science theme common to all units in the equilibrium, matter and systems also play a role.

GARDEN VALLEY COLLEGIATE, WINKLER, MANITOBA

Garden Valley

In December 2000 the Globe and Mail interviewed teacher Larry Danielson of Garden Valley Collegiate of Winkler, Manitoba.
