GVC Students Compete in Auto Competition
By: Daryl K., Grade 12, Garden Valley Collegiate, Winkler, MB

Four GVC students will participate in the CAA / Ford automotive competition in Winnipeg on May 12th. The students were chosen based on their knowledge shown in the 60-question Auto Skills Technology Competition test.

The top scoring students from GVC's Senior 4 Automotive Technology program will form two teams: Mike Banman is paired with Dennis Letkeman and Devon Hiebert is partnered with Jason Janzen. The two teams must debug identical Ford vehicles at the May competition. Winners will be determined by test scores, quality of work and completion time.

Automotive teacher Rick Schroeder thinks that the GVC teams have a good chance of winning. If one of the local teams places first or second, it will advance to the Nationals in St. Catherines, ON on June 9th. GVC has usually had teams in the competition in the past years and in 1998 one local team made it to the Nationals.
