ANNOUNCES THE WINNERS OF THE
2001-2002 SNN STUDENT JOURNALISM AWARD

St. John's, June 25, 2002....SchoolNet News Network today announced that three students are the winners of SNN's 2001-2002 National Student Journalism Award.
The Award was sponsored again this year by READER'S DIGEST CANADA.

The winners are as follows:

1st Place - Beverley Yu, Father Michael McGivney School, Markham, Ontario

2nd Place - Shoilee Khan, John Fraser Secondary, Mississauga, Ontario

3rd Place - Jacqueline Friesen, Garden Valley Collegiate, Winkler, Manitoba

The first place winner receives a cheque for $500 as well as an award. Second place - $300 and third place $150.

‘The awards are based on a portfolio of journalistic work done by students during the 2000-2001 school year", stated coordinator Carmelita Joy-Bolger. "Throughout the award evaluation process the judges, who are professional journalists and journalism teachers from across Canada, found it very rewarding to see such quality writing. They were very pleased with all the articles submitted by students".

First place winner, Beverley Yu, was very surprised when she received the call. ‘I can’t believe it. Wow! .....Thank you and thanks to SNN for a great experience!
