Roncalli Spook Trail
By Megan Gaslard, Roncalli Central High School, Port Saunders, NL

It's frighteningly scary, gory and gross and sends goosebumps running through your spine. Exactly what horrible thing is it? It's Roncalli Central High's Spook Trail 2003.

The spook trail took place on October 26th. Mrs. Rankin, teacher for Theater Arts is in charge of running the trail each and every year. This is what she had to say. "I was quite pleased with the work that was put into the trail again the year. Everyone worked really well and cooperated with their peers. There's a lot of work involved in setting the trail up and a lot of responsibility. I am overly pleased with the results this year and how Genine and Jessica showed their leadership qualities."

The Theater Arts students are primarily involved in setting up and planning the exciting trail, an event which has been done at Roncalli for the past few years. All students at the school are also able to volunteer their time to make the trail larger and much scarier. This year, two students from the Theatre Arts class were in charge of making the spook trail happen. Those students were Genine Gaslard and Jessica Goodland.

The Spook Trail consisted of particular scenes from recent movies as well as ideas from the students. Some of the scenes included, the famous nursery rhyme "Mary had a little lamb" but with a different twist. In that scene Mary was wicked and crazy and attacked the little lamb with her cane. There was a little girl sitting on the floor grabbing people while another girl sat and sang the nursery rhyme.

Some horror movies were scenes along the trail including "IT", "13 Ghosts" and "Jack the Ripper". Other scenes included a horrifying forest with a wolf and a hunter, a gypsy scene, a graveyard, and a scene showing a girls' bathroom. This scene had a head in the sink, people grabbing at you, people coming out of nowhere and a male hanging from the roof. The final, frightening scene was that of a head after being cut off and the blade next to the head on the floor.

Nicole O'Keefe said this about the spook trail, "The spook trail was very scary and well organized; I thought that they did a great job!"

Many people came to go through the trail this year. The line up went from the end of the gym door right to the door at the far end next to the stage area. The set up was a little late this year but the doors opened at 7:00 p.m and closed at 9:30 pm. At the door there were some products there for people to buy since they had a long wait. There were drinks, cookies, bars, and chips available to the public.

This year's trail was an overall success. Look forward to next years trail!!
