Before my lifetime is over, someone will have probably
landed on a distant planet or created a biosphere on the moon.
The world has been making such big leaps and bounds lately and
advancement in technology is happening more and more, faster
and faster. |
Will Canada be able to keep up with the world in dealing with
such big steps? The answer is yes, if we prepare for the future
now. How do we prepare for it now? By preparing and teaching
Canada's students, for they hold the future on their shoulders.
Today, science and technology is already a big part of society.
Almost every family has at least one computer in their home and
a large percentage of the population can hook up to the Internet,
if not in their homes, then at their workplace or school. Many
jobs today deal with science and technology. Computer jobs, semiconductor
jobs, engineering and space jobs, telecommunication jobs such
as telemedicine and distance education jobs. There are jobs for
computer programmers ,system analysts, computer engineers, and
the list goes on.
With so much technology already, imagine what the future will
be like! Not only will jobs deal with science and technology,
but day to day living, as well, will be done through computers.
Students today will have to be ready for such a scientific society,
or technological evolution. To keep students on track today,
I think it is important for Canada to know how well the students
are doing with their school programs because Canada's future
depends on them. And because everything from shopping to careers
in the international job market will deal with technology, science
and technology is very important.
Why is it so important for Canada to know how well students
are doing in science?
Good question! Should the government and people of today get
so caught up in how well the Canadian students are handling science?
Personally, I think they should. I understand why Canada wants
to know how well the students are doing in their classes and
what the marks are.
Marks reflect the schools' or universities' science programs.
How well students do shows how well they are being taught and
if their programs are really effective in inspiring the students
to want to learn science. Marks also reflect the attitude of
the students toward science and show if they are truly interested
in science and technology. If they are not, Canada must inspire
kids to enjoy it more. They need to make them more aware of what
the future will be like and how important science really is.
It is important for Canada to know how well the students do.
They need to know that today's students will be prepared for
the world they will have to live in. First, they have to be prepared
for the job market, which will circle completely around science
and technology. Second, they have to be ready for the future
society in which everything will deal with technology. If Canada
wants the people to be ready for the future, than the people
will have to be prepared. To get the people prepared, Canada
must work with today's students. They must make sure the students
get a good science education which they will need to succeed
in their lifetime. The students today are Canada's future. If
Canada wants a good future ahead of them, it is important for
them to help the youth, the students and inspire their minds
to love science so that they will be capable of handling the
future.
If Canada did not care how well students did in the science
programs, they would not know what was going on in schools and
universities. The marks might fall, students may lose interest
in science and learning in general. The students would not be
ready for the future, therefore Canada would not be ready for
the future. We would not be able to keep up with the rest of
the world and survive in the fob market with other countries.
This is why keeping today's students on track is so important
to Canada.
To survive, the students need a good science education, especially
in the international job market. This brings us to the next question:
Why is science not only fun but also important for careers
in the international job market?
First of all, I think science is fun. Not all other students
may believe this, but if they were exposed to the many types
of science there actually are, I think they would love it just
as much. This is why hands-on experience in an important part
of science programs. If more of today's youth became interested
in science, then more of them will want to look for a job dealing
with science and technology.
This is a very good thing, considering that the future job
market will deal mainly with jobs of science and technology.
Big companies, for example, will need people to invent computers,
build the computers, understand them, work them, and fix them.
This is not just in Canada, but all over the world. Businesses
everywhere will need people who are qualified and Canada wants
to have many of our people trained well and ready for any job.
Plus, Canadian companies do not want to have to hire people from
other countries when we are able to qualify our own people.
There will be thousands of jobs waiting for trained people
to get them. Even though they are all dealing with science, there
are many specific areas for students to work in. Thus there are
more areas for the students to have interest in. The whole world
will be advancing and Canada has to be able to keep up. International
ob market will need people to search for cures, help third world
countries through telemedicine, to work in telecommunication
businesses such as Nortel. There are many jobs and without a
good science education, Canadian students will not be qualified
enough.
In conclusion, today's students must be prepared for the future.
It is going to be a very technological world, and just to be
able to survive society, they will need experience and knowledge
of science. To keep them on track and interested, Canada must
always work with them. This will ensure a stable future in which
Canada will be well of economically and the people will be able
to work better with the world through technology. In fact, I
believe the world will become more unified, but first, before
this can happen, the students of today have to be ready. |
